Aldevron Freiburg is now undergoing a phase of targeted changes to further improve its business portfolio. Therefore, a highly motivated, independent, and organized individual is sought for a full-time scientific position described below.

Position Summary:

The focus of the position, R&D Scientist Antibody Discovery, is on establishment of a Phage Display antibody discovery platform and/or high throughput (HT) antibody sequencing and cloning platforms. The role leads the process of exploring and evaluating project feasibility with an emphasis on technology requirements and facility compatibility. The position also supports activities related to the optimization of existing services/processes and development of a novel, single B cell-based, antibody discovery platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides primary oversight of technical development activities with primary focus on phage display technology for antibody development and/or related platforms, including (HT) antibody sequencing and cloning
  • Conducts activities related to the development of new processes, evaluating process cost and its feasibility
  • Performing process under limited supervision and develops process documentation and training materials for new processes (including SOP), materials, and equipment
  • Functions as a technical role model and resource/consultant to other team members
  • identifies, reviews and evaluates scientific literature to remain abreast on industry trends and new technologies in view of supporting continuous improvement

Experience:

  • 3+ years of working in the biotechnology industry or equivalent advanced degree
  • Broad scientific experience in phage display and/or HT sequencing and cloning
  • Experience authoring standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Education:

Master's degree or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field

Skills and Knowledge:

  • In-depth understanding of immunology with focus on antigen-antibody reaction, antibody structure and common methods in the development of monoclonal antibodies
  • Strong understanding of DNA sequencing and cloning, expertise with high-throughput approaches, including robotic liquid handling platforms
  • Standard molecular biology and immunology methods (e. g. PCR, ELISA, FACS)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Good organizational skills
  • Proven track record of creative scientific accomplishment as evidenced by publication and/or patent record
  • Must be able to develop solutions for simple and complex problems, which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and innovation
